The author, who developed a keen interest in transport from a young age, arrived in London from Burnley in 1949 at the age of nine. He remained in the city, primarily in Wandsworth, until 1994. In his first two books, he vividly depicted his train spotting adventures throughout Britain. In this third book, he delves into London's road fleet, particularly focusing on the Central Area during the conversion of trolleybus routes from 1959 to 1962. He shares his personal experiences with local trolleybus routes, reminiscing about his childhood days in Tooting when he encountered trams. Although he didn't own a camera until 1959, he has supplemented his recollections with later photographs and preserved vehicles to fill in the gaps from earlier times. The book takes readers on a captivating tour of the Central Area, emphasizing trolleybuses but also including other iconic vehicles like the Routemasters and capturing everyday scenes of life during that era. Green Country buses make a brief appearance, and he acknowledges the acquisition of off-the-peg vehicles after RM production, which had their own unique challenges in the capital.
