London's Low-floor Buses

The low-floor bus was first introduced to London in 1994 with a fleet of sixty single-decks, but it was not until 1996 that the first low-floor double-deckers entered service. The early 2000s saw a flood of low-floor buses, mainly of the DAF and Dennis variety, with a smaller number of Volvos entering service. The second generation of low-floor vehicles, the Enviro range, was introduced in 2006 and is still in use today.

The low-floor bus made its debut on the streets of London in 1994, with a fleet of sixty single-decks joining services with London Buses Limited. These vehicles, however, did not gain widespread popularity, and it took until 1996 for the next batch of low-floor double-deckers to arrive in the form of the Dennis Dart SLF. It took nearly two more years before the first low-floor double-deckers commenced operations in the capital. The early 2000s witnessed a surge in the presence of low-floor buses in London, predominantly from DAF and Dennis, with a smaller number of Volvos entering service. In 2006, the second generation of low-floor vehicles, the Enviro range, was introduced to the capital by Alexander Dennis Limited. While many London operators adopted the Enviro200 and Enviro400 models, some chose alternative options.
