Plaxton launched the President model in 1997, and DAF, Dennis, and Volvo teamed up with Plaxton to offer the DB250LF chassis. The President model was popular with First, Go-Ahead London, Metroline, London Untied, and Arriva London, and Plaxton became part of the Transbus International consortium in 2001.

Plaxton unveiled the President model in 1997, but its construction commenced only in 1999. DAF took the pioneering step of partnering with Plaxton, introducing a product based on the DB250LF chassis. Dennis soon followed with the Trident, while Volvo introduced the B7TL. Interestingly, the B7TL chassis proved to be the most popular choice for the President. Several significant orders for the President were received from First, Go-Ahead London, Metroline, London Untied, and Arriva London. Each operator had their specific preferences regarding the chassis beneath the President's bodywork.
In 2001, Plaxton joined the Transbus International consortium, and the President model was produced alongside the ALX400. The ALX400 eventually replaced the President in 2005, marking the end of the President's production run.
