  • More about Making a Neolithic Non-megalithic Monument - Catalogue: Catalogue of a TRB Burial Ground at Dalfsen (the Netherlands), c. 3000-2750 cal. BC

The Dalfsen burial ground, dating from the TRB period (3000-2750 BC), was discovered in 2015 and contains 141 burial pits. It sheds light on the social organisation of local TRB communities and provides evidence for the existence of large multi-person burial mounds during this period. The results also provide intriguing evidence of continuity from this period to the Corded Ware culture.

In 2015, archaeologists made a remarkable discovery at Dalfsen, the Netherlands. They uncovered a burial ground dating back to the TRB period (3000-2750 BC) that contained 141 burial pits. The TRB period is the final phase of the Middle Neolithic period and is renowned for its extensive megalithic monuments, which are found throughout northern Europe. Prior to this discovery, there were few non-megalithic burial grounds known, making the Dalfsen burials a significant addition to the study of mortuary rituals in this region. The findings not only confirm the existence of large multi-person burial mounds during the TRB period but also suggest a continuity from this period to the Corded Ware culture, a transition often associated with migration. This volume presents a comprehensive catalog of the site, including detailed descriptions of the graves and the artifacts found. A separate volume contains the interpretation of the burial ground.
