Maria Lassnig (1919–2014) stands as one of the most significant female artists to emerge in the art world following the 1960s. Spanning an illustrious career that spanned several decades, Lassnig created an extensive and distinctive body of work encompassing painting, drawing, and graphic reproductions, with occasional ventures into (animation) film and sculpture. At the core of her artistic practice lies the exploration of visual representations of physical sensations, often referred to as body-awareness pictures. Her introspective self-analyses are also intricately expressed through a multitude of self-portraits.

For over three decades, Maria Lassnig was accompanied by gallerist Helmut Klewan, resulting in the accumulation of a remarkable collection of oil paintings, works on paper, and a single sculpture. Forty selected works from diverse creative phases were showcased in the exhibition held in Berlin.
