The ancient cultures of Eastern Asia, the Near and Middle East, and the Mediterranean region are distinguished by remarkable scientific discoveries and advancements that are reflected in mythology and folklore. It highlights early precise astronomical observations as well as the technology of automata and kinetic sculpture. Recent discoveries, such as the famous Greek mechanism of Antikythera, an analog computer, and the intricate rotating decks and floors of the Bankettsäle in the Palace of the Roman Emperor Nero, illustrate the significance of automating sculpture in the context of natural science in the Islamic-Arabic cultural region.
