London, 1944: The air raid sirens blare, and the bombers hover overhead. England has been at war with Germany for four long years, and there is no sign of peace in sight. Dot Gallagher, a newly arrived nurse from Liverpool, rushes from her Red Cross hostel to the tube station to join the throngs of people seeking shelter. Among the crowd, a group of American soldiers has gathered around a wind-up gramophone, and Dot is soon drawn into their lively dance. As she jives along with one of the soldiers, he tells her about Rainbow Corner, a social club in Piccadilly catering to US troops. The club offers a respite from the constraints of wartime Britain, with no rationing and a constant stream of luxuries such as donuts, chewing gum, and cola. There are restaurants and cafes, boxing matches, and movies, and, most importantly, a huge dance hall.
Rainbow Corner is like no other place, an oasis in London where the rules of war are forgotten. Dot quickly becomes friends with many of the other hostesses, including Lilly, who works for the Colonel. Together, they navigate the challenges of the war, falling in and out of love, and enduring the horrors of the conflict.
One day, Lilly goes on a secret mission with her Colonel to France, and Dot becomes pregnant and returns to Liverpool. When the war is over, they are reunited and travel by boat to the US, where they meet their repatriated fiancés again. Along the way, they uncover a case of inside espionage and learn of a dangerous plot against the Allied forces.
Meet Me at Rainbow Corner is a story of resilience, friendship, and love in the face of adversity. It highlights the sacrifices made by those who served during World War II and the importance of coming together in times of crisis.
