Newell's comfortable life is turned upside down when Mrs. Hendricks announces the upcoming school dance, and he discovers his dad is dating his math teacher. This unexpected turn of events forces Newell to embrace change and grow.

At first, Newell is excited about the dance. He remembers the awesome seventh-grade dance last year and how it helped him invent his signature move, the Shake and Slide. However, when he realizes the dance is for the entire school, not just the eighth grade, he starts to stress about his friends coupling up and the dance potentially breaking up the gang.

Things take a turn for the worse when Skyler jinxes Newell. He stubs his toe, breaks his arm, and even misses Mr. Todd slipping across the cafeteria on a banana peel! To top it off, Newell's dad starts dating again, and he specifically starts dating Newell's math teacher, Miss Tanner.

Newell is on a desperate mission to keep his life from changing too much. He doesn't want to lose his friends or his math teacher, whom he has a crush on. He tries to find ways to sabotage the dance and prevent his dad from dating Miss Tanner.

However, as he spends more time with Miss Tanner, Newell realizes that she's not as bad as he thought. She's kind, funny, and actually a good teacher. He starts to see her in a different light and realizes that change can be a good thing.

In the end, Newell decides to embrace the dance of life. He attends the dance with his friends, even though he's still nervous about it. He dances with Miss Tanner, and they have a great time together. Newell realizes that change is inevitable, and he's better off embracing it than fighting it.

The dance of life can be unpredictable and challenging, but it's also full of opportunities for growth and new experiences. Newell's journey teaches us that it's important to be open to change and to embrace new opportunities when they come our way.
