Miquel Barcelo is a contemporary Spanish artist renowned for his avant-garde approach to painting and sculpture. Whether employing bleach, organic matter, or even live insects, Barcelo's Neo-Expressionist oeuvre delves into the themes of decomposition, light, and the natural landscape. Hailing from Majorca, Spain, in 1957, Barcelo attributes much of his artistic inspiration to Lucio Fontana. His diverse body of work, encompassing a wide range of paintings, ceramics, and installations, showcases both abstract and cerebral qualities. In 2011, Barcelo presented his sculpture in New York's Union Square. Currently residing and working in Paris and Majorca, Barcelo's artistic creations are held in prestigious collections such as the Guggenheim Bilbao, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Reina Sofia National Museum in Madrid, among others.
