In 1961, Tove Jansson, at the request of her Italian publishers, produced a special new edition of Moominland Midwinter. The story, in which Moomin awakens from hibernation to face the enigmatic world of winter alone, was unchanged. However, Tove added a stunning new cover illustration and seven magnificent full-page color illustrations. This was Tove's only Moomin title to be illustrated in color, and it has long been a prized item among collectors. For the first time, it is available in English.

For this new Sort Of edition, Tove's nephew James Zambra restored the original cover and color illustrations, along with a magnificent fold-out panorama of characters from the book. Tove Jansson painted for the first French edition. Sort Of Books also added a back cover designed for the first Swedish edition of Moominland Midwinter, an image used on the first Puffin book, and a playful bookplate wreath from the first German book.
