The object of the game is to be the first to correctly guess who murdered Mr. Black in whichever room, using whatever weapon. Whodunnits are loved the world over for their escapism opportunities and chance for the reader to pit their wits against the writer. Cluedo is undoubtedly one of the most exceptional board games in existence, as it does not require an eternity to complete and does not necessitate exceptional spelling skills, unlike two rival board games. Invented by Anthony Pratt in 1943, it gained worldwide recognition when the global rights were acquired by Waddingtons of Leeds in 1953. With its simplistic yet captivating design, Cluedo portrays the quintessential murder mystery setting: a British country house featuring nine potential murder rooms, six different murder weapons, and six distinct yet plausible murder suspects. The objective of the game is to be the first to correctly identify the perpetrator of Mr. Black's murder in any of the rooms, utilizing any of the available weapons. Whodunnits have captivated audiences worldwide, offering not only a chance for escapism but also a challenge for readers to outwit the writer. Consequently, there exists a vast array of books, plays, and films that can serve as sources of research and inspiration.

Aside from the slightest nod to precedents, the majority of the inspiration for this book derives from ordinary characters and experiences encountered by the writer for one reason or another throughout his life. Consequently, this story could only be presented in a lighthearted manner. This book is dedicated to Anthony Pratt, for the immense joy and entertainment his invention has brought to the world, including myself and my family during countless Christmases.
