Necrotizing soft tissue infections are highly devastating infections that can lead to extensive tissue or limb loss, multiorgan failure, and a significant fatality rate. Over the past six years, an international and multidisciplinary consortium known as INFECT has been diligently pursuing research to advance our understanding of the clinical and pathogenic aspects of these infections. A central objective of this consortium has been to establish a comprehensive clinical registry and associated biobank, which serve as the foundation for experimental studies. By leveraging the INFECT patient cohort and employing an integrated systems biology approach, researchers have gained advanced insights into diagnostic features, causative microbial agents, treatment strategies, and pathogenic mechanisms.
