Nikita Gales' captivating 52 Walkers site-specific installation challenges conventional notions of viewership by inviting spectators to introspectively examine their own subjectivity within the immersive environment created by sound and light. By meticulously crafting an aurally and visually rich atmosphere, Gales engages with the architectural nuances of the surrounding space, stimulating all of the senses through his site-specific installation. He delves into the boundaries of performance art, pondering the complexities of artistic expression and the role of the audience in shaping the artistic experience.

Gale employs an abolitionist ideology and institutional critique to simultaneously rupture and rebuild aspects of the art institution. He carefully considers and fragments the physical space of the installation, challenging the traditional boundaries and hierarchies within the art world. Through his multidisciplinary approach, Gales addresses historical hierarchies of visibility, challenging the dominant narratives and power structures that have shaped artistic representation.

This publication, curated by Ebony L. Haynes and accompanied by a suite of poems by Harmony Holiday, explores Gales' multifaceted approach to addressing these historical hierarchies. Additionally, a text by esteemed artist Andrea Fraser offers insightful reflections on the various interventions and discussions that took place during a gathering held within the exhibition space.

Gales' installation invites spectators to engage with their surroundings on a deeper level, fostering a sense of introspection and reflection. It challenges the traditional boundaries between artist and audience, creating a space where the lines between performer and observer are blurred. Through his innovative use of sound and light, Gales invites us to reimagine our perception of the world and our place within it.
