  • More about Non-Normative Sexualities in US Latinx and Latin American Literature Through a Capitalist Lens

Through a capitalist lens, Non-Normative Sexualities in US Latinx and Latin American Literature explores how Latin American and Latinx writers depict non-normative sexualities, highlighting how they are viewed as harmful to the nation's health and how one's perceived gender identity or sexuality can limit economic opportunity. Queer, trans, spatial, and intersectional theories form the basis of the literary analyses, with one of the contributors' goals being to present capitalism as it is intersectionally present in life, identity, and society.

Through a capitalist lens, Non-Normative Sexualities in US Latinx and Latin American Literature explores how Latin American and Latinx authors depict non-normative sexualities. In our society, heterosexuality is perceived as a privilege and has been so thoroughly normalized that any sexuality that deviates from the dominant cis-gendered, heteropatriarchal norm is deemed deviant. Non-normative sexualities are still viewed by society as harmful to the nation's health. As a result, how one is perceived by the dominant culture continues to limit one's ability to thrive. Each chapter aims to analyze how one's perceived gender identity or sexuality can hinder access to economic opportunity. Queer, trans, spatial, and intersectional theories serve as the foundation for the literary analyses. One of the contributors' goals is to present capitalism as it intersects with life, identity, and society. The authors studied in this collection originate from the USA, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the Southern Cone of Latin America.
