This comprehensive volume delves into the latest research on various aspects of Egypt's Old Kingdom, encompassing a wide range of topics such as Pyramid Texts, tomb architecture, ceramics, scene choice and layout, field reports, cemetery layout, tomb and temple statuary. The contributions showcased in this publication demonstrate that Egyptology is not confined to traditional methods but is actively embracing newer technologies to enhance its understanding and exploration.

Two notable examples are presented, where GIS technology is utilized to shed light on cemetery arrangement, while 3D scanners are employed to create facsimile drawings of reliefs and inscriptions. The authors cover a diverse range of sites and monuments, with a significant portion of the volume focusing on material from the grand cemeteries of Saqqara and Giza, the Old Kingdom capital city of Memphis. Additionally, the book includes a paper on the architecture of mastabas from the lesser-known site of Abu Roasch.

The provinces are not overlooked, with articles on material from Deir el-Bersha, el-Sheikh Said, and Akhmim. The authors engage in a detailed discussion of material ranging from the King's milieu to the tomb workmen and those who fulfilled their basic needs, including bakers, brewers, and potters.

This volume comprises papers presented at a conference held at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge in 2009, and it continues a series of publications that reflect the latest research presented at previous meetings in Paris, Berlin, and Prague. The publication features an abundance of new material, accompanied by over 200 photographs and drawings, further enhancing the reader's understanding and appreciation of Egypt's Old Kingdom.
