The present study represents a groundbreaking endeavor to broaden the methodological and practical framework of textual scholarship on the Greek New Testament from an Orthodox perspective. Its central focus revolves around the Antoniades edition of 1904, commonly referred to as the Patriarchal Edition. Through an in-depth examination of the edition's creation and reception, it becomes evident that its textual principles are frequently misrepresented. Specifically, it is demonstrated that the Antoniades edition exhibits closer affinities with the Textus Receptus than with lectionary manuscripts. This assertion is substantiated through an analysis of lectionary manuscripts employing the Text und Textwert methodology, as well as a comprehensive comparison of the Antoniades edition with the recent Editio Critica Maior of the Catholic Epistles. A textual commentary is provided on key verses to establish guidelines for the preparation of an edition of the Greek New Testament that would cater to the needs of Orthodox users in diverse contexts. This study serves as a solid foundation for the further development of New Testament textual scholarship from an Orthodox perspective, drawing upon both modern critical scholarship and Orthodox tradition. Additionally, an appendix presents a fresh translation of Antoniades' introduction.
