The authors have written about the findings of their research on youth in conflict zones, which sheds light on what constitutes being a youth in a conflict zone and expands the current understanding of youth by considering the condition of "youthness" from the perspectives of youth themselves. There are many academic programs centered on this subject matter.

The authors have extensively discussed their findings in various channels, including a comprehensive case study titled "The Case of Medellin" for the "Missing Peace: Independent Progress Study on Youth, Peace, and Security." This study was commissioned by the United Nations following the adoption of Resolution 2250 in 2015.

In the majority of the literature, youth in conflict zones are often portrayed as falling into the victim-victimizer dichotomy. This book, however, presents captivating narratives of young individuals living in conflict zones, allowing the authors to theorize about what it means to be a youth in such contexts. Through the personal accounts of these youth, the authors shed light on their experiences, desires, fears, worldviews, and aspirations, thereby providing a deeper understanding of peace and peacebuilding from a broader perspective.

This book expands the current understanding of youth by delving into the concept of "youthness" from the perspectives of the youth themselves. While the emphasis is on individual testimonies, the research also provides ample opportunity to appreciate the diverse contextual factors at play in local and regional social processes beyond Colombia.

There are numerous academic programs dedicated to studying this subject matter, including the Negotiation and Conflict Resolution master's program at Columbia University, the Peace and Conflict Studies master's program at Rutgers University, the Peace and Conflict Studies master's program at the University of Oslo, and the Peacebuilding master's program at Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia).
