In September 1999, the author was recruited by UH to assume the role of Dean of the College of Engineering, with a noble mission: to elevate the College to one of the top 50 engineering schools by fostering faculty growth, enhancing facilities, and increasing enrollment. Over his seven years at UH, remarkable progress was achieved in all three areas: the research program expanded, facilities were improved, and enrollment increased.
