  • More about Potteries Motor Traction

Potteries Motor Traction was part of the National Bus Company in the early 1980s, but was sold to its management following a government policy to sell off the National Bus Company piecemeal. A management buyout introduced a bright red and yellow livery and PMT began a policy of expansion by acquiring local independents. After the sale of PMT to Badgerline in 1994 and the subsequent merger with GRT to form First Bus, the area covered began to contract, and today they have just a solitary garage at Adderley Green. This book aims to show the variety of vehicles and liveries from 1980 until 2020.

In the early 1980s, Potteries Motor Traction (PMT) was a subsidiary of the state-owned National Bus Company, operating a fleet of vehicles in the distinctive poppy red livery of the NBC. However, this would soon change with the sale of the company to its management team, following a government policy to sell off the National Bus Company piecemeal before deregulation. The management buyout brought about a vibrant red and yellow livery for PMT, and the company embarked on an expansion strategy by acquiring local independents before acquiring the Chester and Wirral operations of Crosville from Drawlane and later Pennine Blue of Denton, Greater Manchester.

After the sale of PMT to Badgerline in 1994 and the subsequent merger with GRT to form First Bus, PMT once again fell under the control of a large conglomerate. This period saw a contraction in the area covered by PMT, with outstations being closed or transferred to neighbouring First Group operators. Today, PMT operates solely from a single garage located in Adderley Green.

This book serves as a comprehensive showcase of the diverse range of vehicles and liveries operated by PMT from 1980 until 2020. It includes photographs of the company's home fleet, as well as the Red Rider Crosville and Pennine Blue operations during their time under PMT control. The book aims to provide a visual history of the company's evolution and the impact it had on the transportation landscape of the region.
