However, a clash with Jim Crow America led to King's exile for the next forty years. His academic career included positions at the universities of Keele, Ghana, and Sheffield, where he served as a Senior Research Assistant at the Acton Society Trust in London. He later assumed the role of professor at the universities of Nairobi, New South Wales (Sydney), and Lancaster, before finally returning to the United States as the joint Woodruff Professor at Emory and Distinguished Professor at Morehouse.
