The Seminar for Arabian Studies stands as the longest-running academic platform dedicated to the presentation of cultural heritage research on the Arabian Peninsula. Having convened for the first time in 1968, this esteemed Seminar has since expanded its scope to encompass a wide array of subjects, including but not limited to archaeology, epigraphy, history, ethnography, art, architecture, linguistics, and literature spanning from prehistory to the early twentieth century.

The 54th Seminar for Arabian Studies, held in 2022, witnessed the presentation of 73 scholarly papers and 6 poster presentations across two invigorating weekends. These papers covered four special sessions, each offering unique insights into various aspects of Arabian Studies. The first special session focused on recent research in North West Arabia, shedding light on the rich tapestry of this region's history and culture. The second special session delved into the historical and cultural connections between Iberia and Arabia, exploring the intricate interplay of trade, religion, and cultural exchange that has shaped the region over centuries. The third special session explored maritime practices in the Arabian Gulf, examining the economic, social, and environmental aspects of seafaring in this vital maritime domain.

While the special sessions on North West Arabia and Iberian-Arabian interactions will be published as supplemental volumes in the future, many of the papers submitted on maritime practices are already included in the present issue of the Seminar's journal. This rich collection of research contributes to our understanding of the Arabian Peninsula's cultural heritage and its place in global history.
