Long ago, a wealthy man stole an angel and hid her in a chapel, where she remains imprisoned to this day. That's the legend, anyway. A clerical student who has racked up gambling debts to a local gangster is given an ultimatum: deliver the angel his grandfather kidnapped, or forfeit various body parts in payment. And so begins a whirlwind theological paradox - with the student at its center - in which the stakes are the necessity of God, the existence of destiny, and the nature of angels.
The student, a devout believer, is torn between his loyalty to God and his fear of the consequences of defying the gangster. He seeks guidance from his religious leaders, but they are unable to provide him with a clear answer. As the deadline approaches, the student becomes increasingly desperate and begins to question his own beliefs.
Meanwhile, the gangster grows impatient and begins to exert pressure on the student, threatening to harm his family if he does not deliver the angel. The student is forced to make a difficult decision: to sacrifice his own beliefs and deliver the angel to the gangster, or to risk everything he has and fight for the angel's freedom.
In the end, the student is able to deliver the angel to the gangster, but not without suffering great consequences. He is excommunicated from his church and his family is left destitute. However, he is also able to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of angels and the power of faith.
The story ends with the angel being returned to her rightful place in heaven, and the student is left to reflect on the lessons he has learned. He realizes that the true test of faith is not in what we do for others, but in what we do for ourselves. He also realizes that the nature of angels is not as simple as he once believed and that there is much more to the world than what meets the eye.
