This volume presents a diverse collection of Reading to Learn (R2L) projects from across the globe, implemented in various educational settings across multiple languages. The pedagogy originated over two decades through a convergence of idealism, academic research, and teachers' practical experiences. One common goal shared by all stakeholders in R2L is to enhance teaching effectiveness and support others in doing the same. At the core of this pursuit is the democratic ideal that education should be universally accessible, inclusive, and impactful for every student. In the first chapter, David Rose traces the origins of R2L in his work with Indigenous Australian children, drawing upon genre writing and scaffolded reading pedagogies. The subsequent three chapters highlight the profound impact of the methodology in educational disadvantage contexts within Australian schools. Additional chapters explore the efficacy of R2L in diverse global settings, often in challenging educational environments. Stories from Africa illustrate the successes of R2L pedagogy in South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. In Europe, a groundbreaking project is described to adapt the methodology for the education of deaf and hearing-impaired students utilizing Swedish Sign Language (SSL). Similarly, in Sweden, a long-term project aimed at training teachers in disadvantaged schools emerged from the success of the EU-funded project, Teacher Learning for European Literacy Education (TeL4ELE). The subsequent chapters detail the unfolding and dissemination of R2L to Portuguese and Spanish schools and teacher education through the TeL4ELE project. Chapters from the Americas showcase success stories from a US community education project with Spanish-speaking mothers learning English, as well as a tertiary setting in Colombia where the methodology has been employed as a cross-faculty approach.
