  • More about Recent Studies on Jatropha Research

Jatropha plants are from the Euphorbiaceae family and have many applications due to their chemical, nutritional, and phytochemical content. This work aims to review the available information on Jatropha species from the web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus databases to assess their agronomic, botanical, industrial applications, and biopharmacological potential.

Format: Hardback
Length: 267 pages

Publisher: Nova Science Publishers Inc

The genus Jatropha, belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family, encompasses a diverse range of approximately 175 species, primarily found in America, Asia, and Africa. These plants have garnered significant attention in various research fields due to their multifaceted applications, primarily attributed to their rich chemical, nutritional, and phytochemical composition. Among the most extensively studied species within the Jatropha genus are J. curcas, J. isabelli, J. gossypiifolia, J. integerrima, and J. platyphylla. These species have particular interest as sustainable crops, for their potential in biofuel production, and in the exploration of their bioactive compounds for ethnopharmacological studies. To date, there exists no comprehensive scientific compilation that provides a comprehensive review of recent information regarding Jatropha species. However, a limited number of publications have focused on J. curcas, primarily emphasizing its potential as a source of compounds for biofuel production.
The present work endeavors to undertake a comprehensive review of the available information from the web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus databases, in order to assess all possible subjects related to Jatropha studies. Within the scope of this research, we will examine the agronomic, botanical, industrial applications, and biopharmacological potential of Jatropha crops, as well as their phytochemical constituents. By synthesizing and analyzing this data, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current state of knowledge regarding Jatropha and its potential applications in various fields.
