  • More about Redox Signaling and Biomarkers in Ageing

This book aims to present the age-related alterations in redox signaling networks and their diagnostic biomarkers in aging cells using a multidisciplinary approach. Establishing sensitive and specific biomarkers of dynamic redox homeostasis is crucial for developing effective antiaging and senolytic interventions. Recent advances in understanding redox signaling events highlight the process of aging and age-related pathologies. Developing reliable biomarkers to determine the consequences of disrupted redox signaling networks long before clinical diagnosis is made is a major challenge in biological aging research. This book focuses on aging-induced aberrant redox signaling networks, their biomarkers, and pathological consequences. Oxidative stress and inflammation can lead to various diseases, including diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer. Novel redox-sensitive biomarkers for evaluating aging-induced proteinopathies such as amyloid ß, tau proteins, α-synuclein, and islet amyloid polypeptides have recently drawn attention. This textbook provides comprehensive perspectives on the association between redox homeostasis and the aging process at the molecular and clinical levels. It also discusses the temporal interaction between intermediary metabolism and disturbed redox status, which can increase susceptibility to aging-induced diseases and disorders. The book is intended for researchers, advanced students, scientifically curious non-specialist readers, and clinicians.

This book aims to present a comprehensive exploration of the age-related alterations in redox signaling networks and their diagnostic biomarkers in aging cells, employing a multidisciplinary approach. Establishing sensitive and specific biomarkers of dynamic redox homeostasis is of paramount importance in developing effective antiaging and senolytic interventions. Over the past few years, significant advancements in our understanding of redox signaling events have shed light on the process of aging and age-related pathologies. A significant challenge in biological aging research lies in developing reliable biomarkers to determine the consequences of disrupted redox signaling networks well before the clinical diagnosis of age-related diseases. Therefore, we have chosen to focus on aging-induced aberrant redox signaling networks, their biomarkers, and pathological consequences in this book.

While oxidation is a natural metabolic process, an imbalance in the levels of oxidants and antioxidants leads to oxidative stress, which in turn contributes to inflammatory conditions, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer. Recently, novel redox-sensitive biomarkers have gained attention for evaluating aging-induced proteinopathies such as amyloid β and tau proteins in Alzheimer's disease, α-synuclein in Parkinson's disease, and islet amyloid polypeptides in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Within the pages of this textbook, readers will discover comprehensive perspectives on the association between redox homeostasis and the aging process, both at the molecular and clinical levels. Given the inherent relationship between impaired metabolic activities and oxidative stress, the temporal interaction between intermediary metabolism and disturbed redox status can increase susceptibility to aging-induced diseases and disorders.
