The educational landscape in the United States and globally is characterized by diversity and widening disparities, presenting significant challenges and opportunities. Public school administrators and teachers must re-envision education and build equity-centered systems, structures, and practices to confront systemic inequality. This edited volume aims to promote inclusive educational excellence and offer valuable insights and inspiration to educational stakeholders. It will examine equity-focused pre-K–12 pedagogical practices and showcase high-impact initiatives. However, educators often report feeling inadequately prepared for current challenges, leading to turnover rates and shortages. A research study by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and the Learning Policy Institute (LPI) reveals that public schools with higher percentages of low-income students and students of color are more likely to experience administrative and teacher turnover, which compounds equity issues affecting already vulnerable students. This edited volume will provide educational stakeholders with a deeper understanding of pedagogical practices that affirm diversity and promote social justice, while offering a current view of educational inequalities juxtaposed with an urgent call to action. School districts must recognize inequalities and provide increasingly diverse students with needed support and resources, particularly as social disparities continue to widen and adversely impact millions of students.

Unfortunately, growing challenges are contributing to turnover rates and shortages as well as perpetuating social inequities among pre-K–12 students instead of dismantling them. A research study by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and the Learning Policy Institute (LPI) reveals that public schools with higher percentages of students from low-income families have higher rates of teacher turnover and shortages than schools with lower percentages of students from low-income families. This study highlights the need for more support and resources for teachers working in high-need schools to ensure that they can provide high-quality education to all students. Additionally, the study suggests that policies and practices that promote equity and diversity in education should be implemented to address the root causes of social inequities among pre-K–12 students. By working together, educators, policymakers, and community members can create a more just and equitable education system that benefits all students.
