The translations of Egyptian hymns and religious texts presented in this and the subsequent volumes constitute a comprehensive anthology of the diverse compositions inscribed by the Egyptians on the walls of tombs, sarcophagi, coffins, funeral stelae, papyri, and amulets, among other artifacts. These translations originally appeared in the third volume of my work on The Book of The Dead, titled The Chapters of Coming Forth by Day, which was published at the end of 1897.
