  • More about Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt (Bilingual edition): Nichts Neues

Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt was a self-taught artist who used her typewriter to create patterns and abstract compositions with characters and letters at the junction of Concrete Poetry, Dada, and Minimal Art. Her linguistic explorations later became collages, often based on ambiguity. Her art explores themes such as environmental issues, intellectual freedom, community, and communication in a poetic, idiosyncratic, and humorous way.

Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt, a former office manager in the former GDR, and a self-taught artist, utilized her typewriter to craft intricate patterns and abstract compositions that merged elements of Concrete Poetry, Dada, and Minimal Art. Her linguistic explorations, which later evolved into collages, were characterized by ambiguity.

Published on the occasion of the extensive retrospective at MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam, NICHTS NEUES delves into Wolf-Rehfeldt's typewritings, prints, collages, and paintings through thematic episodes. Despite her decision to discontinue her artistic practice following the fall of the Berlin Wall, her art remains highly relevant. Wolf-Rehfeldt approached her subjects with a poetic, idiosyncratic, and often humorous perspective, exploring themes such as environmental concerns, intellectual freedom, community, and communication. Her subtle and literal play with words, meanings, and forms continues to unveil unexpected insights.
