This special issue explores the complex web of colonial continuities, imperial geographies, and diverse forms of difference that shape the experiences of individuals as subjects of, resistance to, and contributors to security regimes across the globe. Through a transnational feminist lens, the authors challenge the notion of a rigidly defined category known as the "Global South," highlighting the fluidity and interconnectedness between seemingly distinct scales such as North/South and intimate/global. The essays in this issue delve into a range of topics, including imperial warfare in East Africa, the politics of protest and national security at India's borderlands, the diasporic politics of race and class in Jamaica's security dynamics, the use of religion to legitimize state-sanctioned violence, and the securitization of patriarchies in postcolonial India.
Contributors to this special issue include Samar Al-Bulushi, Sahana Ghosh, Inderpal Grewal, Dipin Kaur, Negar Razavi, Sasha Sabherwal, and Deborah A. Thomas. Their insights and perspectives shed light on the enduring legacies of colonialism, the power dynamics at play in global security, and the diverse ways in which individuals and communities navigate and challenge these complex systems.
