This publication sets forth the requirements and establishes criteria for ensuring safety in the site evaluation process for nuclear installations. The Safety Guides on site evaluation, listed in the references section, offer recommendations on how to meet the requirements outlined in this publication. Following the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan in 2011, a review of Safety Requirements publications was initiated. The review revealed no significant areas of weakness and led to only a minor set of amendments to strengthen the requirements and facilitate their implementation, which are included in the present publication.
