  • More about Slow Urban Planning: Tribsees' Zukunft machen

Despite the extensive efforts made to revitalize the public spaces in Eastern Germany following the Wende, numerous small towns and villages continue to face challenges. This is particularly true in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where approximately 70 out of 240 houses in the inner city remain vacant. In 2020, a team of artists and students led by Ton Matton embarked on a project to explore these vacant houses and collaborate with the local residents to envision a brighter future for their city. Through a combination of improvisation and creative approaches, the team generated new narratives emphasizing individual responsibility, self-sufficiency, and local production.

Slow Urban Planning, a documentary film, not only showcases the artistic works created as part of the Tribsees Centennial project but also delves into the broader context of urban planning processes. It sheds light on how these processes typically unfold and explores potential ways to integrate more performative elements into the planning framework. By highlighting the experiences and perspectives of the local community, Slow Urban Planning offers a unique insight into the potential for urban regeneration and community-driven development.
