Sociological life course research, akin to biographical inquiry, has emerged as a vibrant and productive field of study since the late 1960s. While it is true that half a century prior, in their renowned study titled "The Polish Peasant in Europe and America" (1918-20), Thomas and Znaniecki had already employed life records to investigate the interplay between social transformation, social structures, and the life histories of individuals, a different methodological-conceptual approach to empirical social research prevailed for over fifty years. It was not until the 1960s that sociological interest in life course and biographical theoretical issues rekindled. Today, life course research is widely regarded as one of the most significant conceptual innovations in sociology in recent decades.
