- More about Stirling Moss - Rally Driver
Stirling Moss was a skilled rally driver who entered many rallies from the early 1950s, achieving top-ten results in various makes. He nearly won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1952 and won the Coupe d'Or on the Alpine Rally. His contribution to pace notes is covered, as well as his abortive attempt at the East African Safari Rally with his brother-in-law. Moss was rescued from a rally in Africa when stranded in a remote part of the Sahara Desert.

Stirling Moss, the legendary racing car driver, also excelled as a rally driver. He participated in numerous rallies from the early 1950s onwards, consistently securing top-ten finishes in various makes, including Sunbeam-Talbot, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Saab. In 1952, he narrowly missed out on winning the Monte Carlo Rally, losing only to Sydney Allard, and then joined an exclusive group of rally drivers who secured the prestigious Coupe d'Or on the Alpine Rally, one of the most challenging events on the calendar. This article explores his contribution to pace notes, derived from the technique employed in his remarkable Mille Miglia victory alongside Denis Jenkinson, as well as his unsuccessful attempt at the East African Safari Rally with his brother-in-law, Eric Carlsson. Unfortunately, Africa proved to be a challenging terrain for Moss, as he nearly lost his life during another rally when stranded in a remote part of the Sahara Desert. This remarkable record encompasses the cars he drove, the teams he worked with, and the co-drivers who accompanied him throughout his illustrious rally driving career, often overlooked despite his extraordinary skills behind the wheel.
