  • More about Talent Management in Latin America: Pressing Issues and Best Practices

Latin America has transformed from unstable closed economies to democratic, stable, and open to investment and trade, attracting 11% of world foreign direct investment. However, there is limited knowledge about how to manage employees in these countries, and more research is needed. This book seeks to offer a more up-to-date review of the main developments in HRM and talent management in Latin America, focusing on local cultural and institutional factors, illustrating examples of idiosyncratic problems, and describing and reflecting on the transfer of Talent Management policies from and to LATAM.

Latin America (LATAM) experienced a remarkable transformation over a span of approximately 20 years, transitioning from highly unstable closed economies under authoritarian regimes to becoming increasingly democratic, stable, and open to investment and trade. By 2020, the region attracted close to 11% of the world's total foreign direct investment (FDI). Parallel to this transformation, the emergence of large multinational companies, often referred to as "multilatinas," has propelled Latin America into the global spotlight.

While significant progress has been made, there remains a limited understanding of how to effectively manage employees in these countries, leading to a need for further research focused on addressing people management challenges. In comparison to other world regions, research on Human Resource Management (HRM) in Latin America remains relatively scarce. This book aims to provide a more up-to-date review of the major developments in HRM and talent management that have recently occurred in Latin America, with a particular emphasis on local cultural and institutional factors. It seeks to showcase examples of unique problems or issues that require approaches to talent management that differ significantly from those commonly established in the current literature. Additionally, the book will describe and reflect on the transfer of talent management policies from and to LATAM within the context of local and foreign multinational companies.

Talent Management in Latin America offers a comprehensive update on key HRM topics in the region, with a local focus on culture and institutions. It serves as a valuable resource for researchers, academics, and students in the fields of human resource management, critical management studies, and international business. By delving into the unique challenges and opportunities faced by organizations operating in Latin America, this book contributes to the growing body of knowledge on global talent management practices.
