Brandon Smith-Johnson, a young man from Huddersfield with a diverse heritage of British, Romany gypsy, and Jamaican descent, harbours a profound aspiration to pursue a successful future by channeling his creativity through writing, photography, art, and custom clothing. Despite feeling like an outsider among his peers, Brandon embarks on a journey of self-discovery at Leeds City College, where he meets Lauren. Together, they navigate the challenges of adolescence and enter adulthood, facing various environments across West Yorkshire. From his mother's house to Lauren's family home, to B&B's for addicts, to abandoned youth hostels, and even troubled people's hotels, Brandon experiences the diverse tapestry of life's hardships. However, their existence takes a dark turn when they find themselves living in a homeless shelter called The Crypt, where they are relentlessly preyed upon by lost individuals, criminals, and addicts. Through manipulation and violence, they endure a relentless cycle of trouble and torment. In an attempt to escape their circumstances, Lauren and Brandon resort to drinking and substance abuse, further exacerbating their already fragile mental health. Their lives are plagued by incidents of theft, overdoses, psychiatric ward stays, and arrests stemming from misunderstandings. Amidst this turmoil, Brandon discovers a source of solace in connecting with nature. He finds peace by camping in the picturesque Lake District and embarking on a boat ride along the majestic Swiss Alps. However, Brandon faces a dilemma—should he seek escapism to numb his pain and poverty, or should he strive to break free from these challenges and achieve something meaningful in his life? Realizing the urgency of this question, Brandon embarks on a introspective journey to discover his true desires, understand his identity, learn how to take care of himself, and make life worth living. He understands that he must make a decision before it is too late and he loses both the ongoing battle within his mind and the relationships that matter most to him.
