Told with heart and humor, the book offers a child's perspective on the refugee crisis, emphasizing the importance of friendship and kindness in a world that sometimes doesn't make sense.
In the past, an empty chair sat at the back of my class, but now a new boy named Ahmet has taken his place. Ahmet is nine years old, just like me, but he appears very strange. He never talks or smiles, and he doesn't enjoy sweets, even my favorite lemon sherbets. However, I soon discovered the truth: Ahmet is a refugee who has fled from a real war. He has experienced bombs, fires, and bullies that have caused harm to others. As I learned more about him, I felt compelled to help.
That's where my best friends Josie, Michael, and Tom come in. Together, we have devised a plan to assist Ahmet. We want to show him that he is not alone and that there are people who care about him and want to support him. We plan to introduce him to our families and friends, to involve him in our activities, and to help him integrate into our school community.
We are also determined to raise awareness about the refugee crisis and the importance of supporting those who have been forced to flee their homes. We plan to organize a fundraiser to support a local refugee organization and to participate in a walkathon to raise funds for refugees worldwide.
Through our efforts, we hope to make a positive impact on Ahmet's life and to show him that kindness and compassion can make a difference in the world. We hope that our story will inspire others to reach out to those in need and to work towards creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.
