New and groundbreaking research has shed light on Henry V's chapel, tomb, and funeral service, providing fresh revelations and insights into the time. Before embarking on his campaign that led to victory at Agincourt in 1415, Henry V made a will that detailed the construction of a chantry chapel in Westminster Abbey after his death. This chapel was intended to be a final resting place near his revered ancestor, Edward the Confessor. Seven years later, the king passed away at Vincennes, and his body was brought back to the Abbey for burial. The elaborate funeral ceremony took place on November 7, 1422. It is believed that his chapel was completed in the 1440s and remains a distinctive feature of Westminster Abbey to this day.

This book, inspired by the 600th anniversary of Henry V's death, explores his funeral service and the design of his ornate chantry chapel and tomb. It also examines each of the funeral achievements traditionally associated with him, such as the saddle, helm, shield, and sword. Drawing on the latest research by experts in various fields, including exciting input from new technologies, the book investigates the construction and form of the arms and weapons. It also provides fascinating insights into the material culture and commemoration of royalty in the fifteenth century and beyond.

Anne Curry, Emeritus Professor of Medieval History at the University of Southampton, and Susan Jenkins, Curator of Westminster Abbey, are the authors of this comprehensive work. Their expertise and dedication to the study of medieval history have contributed greatly to our understanding of this iconic king and his legacy.
