Glaciers in the Alps and on Greenland have been melting away due to global warming, and Swiss geophysicist Alfred de Quervain and artist Martin Stützle have been studying them. This book combines glaciological and geophysical research with contemporary art to explore the current state of the glaciers.

Glaciers in the Alps and on Greenland have been melting away slowly for decades, but global warming has accelerated their retreat significantly in recent years. Swiss geophysicist Alfred de Quervain conducted the first survey of the Clariden glacier in the Swiss canton of Glarus and led important scientific expeditions to Greenland in 1909 and 1912. Swiss artist Martin Stützle and photographer Fridolin Walcher also associate Glarus with Greenland, focusing their work on the Swiss glaciers. In May 2018, they joined a Swiss research campaign investigating the current state of glaciers on the world's largest island. Their photographs and prints convey a deep understanding of scientific facts while also captivating the viewer emotionally and aesthetically. This book combines glaciological and geophysical research with contemporary art, honoring Alfred de Quervain's legacy. Prints and photographs are showcased alongside three concise essays providing a summary of the expedition's findings. A fourth essay examines Stützle's and Walcher's works and discusses current trends in climate art. The text is available in English, German, and Kalaallisut (Greenlandic).
