Spanning just under five miles, the former Midland Railway branch from Keighley to Oxenhope, situated west of Bradford, may not rank among the country's longest preserved lines. Nevertheless, it holds a special place in the hearts of railway enthusiasts due to its rich history and enduring popularity. Dating back to the mid-nineteenth century, the Keighley & Worth Valley played a vital role in connecting the communities it served for nearly a century. However, the harsh economic realities of the 1950s cast a shadow of uncertainty over its future. The infamous Beeching Report of March 1963, which proposed significant railway closures, seemed to seal its fate. Yet, a group of dedicated local enthusiasts emerged, determined to prevent the Oxenhope line from meeting a similar demise. Recognizing the significance of preserving this heritage, they tirelessly campaigned for its preservation. Their efforts paid off in 1968 when services were triumphantly restored, bringing joy to tourists and enthusiasts alike. Since then, the line has continued to provide a source of pleasure and fascination, serving as a testament to the resilience and dedication of those who fought to save it.
