Interestingly, all three were related to Isabel the Catholic (1451–1504), queen of Castile and celebrated for her rationality.
Through the narratives of these royal women and the observations, judgments, and manipulations of their families, entourages, and circles of writers, chronicles, courtiers, moralists, and physicians in their orbits, Silleras-Fernandez addresses critical questions about the expectations placed upon royal women in Iberia, the affective standards they were held to, and how perceptions of their emotional states influenced their ability to exercise power.
