  • More about The Racialization of Sexism: Men, Women and Gender in the Populist Radical Right

This book studies the Lega Nord in Italy and the Front national in France, and tackles how gender shapes the parties’ strategies as well as their activists’ experiences. It will be of interest to those studying gender, as well as nationalism, racism, social movements, radical politics and party politics.

There isn't a direct competitor to the volume. Most studies of the populist radical right are survey-based and examine its electoral support and ideology as opposed to its membership. We know the strategy of the parties themselves to overcome the gender gap. This book is the first analysis of gender in PRR parties, based on the investigation of the practices and experiences of both female and male activists.

Draws on unique new data, 150 "life histories" of party members and "interviews with representatives" of the Northern League in Italy and the National Front in France

The book’s regional focus will attract European scholars, and Europeanists working outside of the region.

The book will play to our strengths in the area of Gender Studies, Social Movements. Migration Studies and Extremism. There will be possible opportunities to cross promote this book with our Sociology, our newly created Gender Studies list, and Anthropology

Author is clearly well suited for this project. She has obtained several reputable grants (ERC Starting Grant; Marie Sklodowska-Curie) and published in good journals.
