The fifth book in the War at Home series by the author of The Morland Dynasty novels. Set against the evocative backdrop of World War I, this is an epic family drama featuring the Hunters and their servants

Format: Hardback
Length: 400 pages
Publication date: 28 June 2018
Publisher: Little, Brown Book Group

In 1918, the Great War had already taken a significant toll on countless lives, and it seemed poised to continue its devastating impact on the Hunters, their friends, and their servants. Edward, seeking to escape the problems at home, made the decision not to resist conscription, ultimately finding himself at the Front. Sadie's hopes for love remained unrequited, and Laura had to flee Artemis House when it was shelled, ending up in London driving an ambulance. Ethel, the nursery maid, masked her own pain by caring for other people's children, but she had to be careful not to get too attached.

The government was forced to introduce rationing due to the manpower shortages caused by the war. As a result, the conscription age was extended, affecting even more young men. The Russians had withdrawn from the war, and a series of terrifying all-out attacks by the Allies pushed them back almost to the Channel. For the first time, England faced the real prospect of defeat. The war seemed to have no end, and hope seemed elusive. However, a faint glimmer of hope remained.
