In the spring of 1973, the Baharvand tribe, residing in the Luristan province of central western Iran, embarked on their annual migration, transitioning from their winter pastures to their summer camp in the mountains. This tradition of seasonal migration had been woven into the fabric of their existence for generations, a way of life deeply ingrained in their culture. With meticulous planning, the tribe relocated their camp and their cherished animals, comprising sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, and chickens, in search of lush green pastures and optimal temperatures.

That particular year, a remarkable opportunity arose when one migrating family within the tribe extended an invitation to an outsider to join their journey. Anthropology professor Frank Hole, accompanied by his graduate student, Sekandar Amanolahi-Baharvand, embarked on this extraordinary adventure alongside the family of Morad Khan. Hole vividly captures the intricacies of the journey, the diverse modern and prehistoric sites encountered along the way, and the remarkable individuals he encountered. This volume serves as a captivating portrait of a people in transition, even as the family follows the ancient migration path, evidence of economic and social transformations permeating every aspect of their lives.

To enhance the reader's experience, supplementary videos, showcasing the migration, weaving, harvesting, and vibrant bazaars, are available on Fulcrum. These videos offer a deeper insight into the traditions and customs of the Baharvand tribe, providing a multimedia perspective on this captivating chapter of human history.
