Don't wallow in misery, my dear woman; embrace the allure of being a mermaid. The vast ocean awaits your plunge. Fall in love with a mortal, and let him be dragged down into your depths. Astound us with your extraordinary presence!

Sonia and her Uncle Vanya find themselves trapped in a monotonous existence on an isolated country estate. However, when the elderly invalid Serebriakov and his captivatingly beautiful young wife, Yelena, move in, a longing sweeps over the household, unsettling the familiar routine. Friend and confidant Astrov falls hopelessly in love, Sonia's heart is shattered, and even Vanya succumbs to the spell. As they engage in heated arguments, form bonds, belittle each other, lament their circumstances, and make peace, they also contemplate the possibility of a murder.

This adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, penned and directed by Terry Johnson, premiered at Hampstead Theatre in London in November 2018. It delves into the complexities of human relationships, exploring themes of sex, comedy, and unbearable sadness set in nineteenth-century Russia.

After enduring the storm, what remains are my lingering feelings for you—a few droplets on a window pane, catching the sun's rays, trickling down a path, eventually drying up into nothingness.
