Powerful Personal Accounts from Migrants Crossing the US-Mexico Border:

Migrants, refugees, and deportees navigate through harrowing circumstances, yet their personal stories often go unheard. While politicians and commentators mischaracterize and demonize border crises, and speculate about the identities and lives of individuals, the actual memories of migrants are rarely shared. In the tradition of oral storytelling, Voices of the Border presents the stories migrants have told, offering a window into both individual and collective experiences of crossing the US-Mexico border.

This collection originated from interviews conducted by the Kino Border Initiative (KBI), a Jesuit organization dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance and advocating for migrants. Based in Nogales, Arizona, and Nogales, Sonora, twin border cities connected by shared histories, geographies, economies, and cultures, the editors and their colleagues documented migrants' testimonies to amplify their voices. These personal narratives of lived experiences, presented in the original Spanish with English translations, bring us closer to the strength, love, and courage of these individuals in the face of hardship and injustice.

Short introductions written by migrant advocates, humanitarian workers, religious leaders, and scholars provide additional context at the beginning of each chapter. These powerful stories help readers gain a deeper understanding of migrants' experiences, as well as the impact of public policies on their communities.

Royalties from the sale of the book will be donated to the Kino Border Initiative, further supporting their efforts to assist and advocate for migrants on both sides of the border.
