The ninth generation of the Brandt family, Peter Augustus Brandt, was born in 1931. After completing his education at Eton, Cambridge, and serving in the Royal Navy, he joined the family business in 1954, eventually rising to the position of managing director in 1966. Following the bank's successful decade in the 1960s, it was acquired by National and Grindlays and eventually sold in 1972, marking a remarkable span of 160 years since its founding.
