A new book about women's football in Latin America that focuses on the players' perspectives and includes the first large-scale survey of South American women footballers' views is called "Women's Football in Latin America: Players' Perspectives." It explores the lived reality of women's football in three strategic locations, including the Amazon region of Brazil, Santos FC, and Atlético Huila of Colombia, and contrasts it with the heteronormative athletic femininity that is privileged in the media and institutional panorama.

The first comprehensive book on women's football in Latin America, focusing on the experiences of players, offers rare interview material that shatters stereotypes and reveals the true lives of women footballers. It includes a comprehensive survey of the opinions of South American women footballers, engaging in a dialogue with institutional and media perspectives.
The early chapters delve into the context in which Latin American women footballers operate, a media and institutional landscape that perpetuates heteronormative athletic femininity while consistently portraying women's football as an inferior version of the dominant (male) game.
Subsequently, the book forefronts the lived reality of women's football in three strategically chosen locations. Firstly, three months were dedicated to exploring the Amazon region of Brazil, where Esporte Clube Iranduba presents a captivating alternative model for the development of women's football. This is contrasted with Santos FC, where women's football is often overshadowed by the pervasive influence of patriarchal norms, and finally with a fleeting glimpse of another possible model at Atlético Huila of Colombia, the unexpected victor of the women's Copa Libertadores in 2018.
Through extensive ethnographic fieldwork, involving 33 semi-structured interviews with players and institutional figures, this pioneering book offers a profound exploration of the experiences and perspectives of women footballers in Latin America. It sheds light on the challenges, opportunities, and unique challenges faced by these athletes, providing a valuable contribution to the growing understanding and appreciation of women's football in the region.
