The Dennis Brothers' legacy traces back to the 1890s, when John Dennis relocated from his native Devon to Guildford and embarked on the creation of bicycles. In 1901, Dennis expanded his horizons by venturing into the realm of motor vehicles, initially focusing on the production of cars and subsequently expanding to include vans, fire engines, and buses. While car manufacturing ceased in 1913, the development of larger vehicles gained momentum, and following the conclusion of the First World War, Dennis' products became widely recognized across the United Kingdom and numerous international territories. In 1972, the company was acquired by the Hestair Group, and during the period from 1989 to 2004, it underwent several ownership changes when it was acquired by the consortium Alexander Dennis. Throughout its history, Dennis has been renowned for its diverse and extensive production of buses and coaches, solidifying its position as the largest manufacturer of passenger transport vehicles in the UK. This book aims to chronicle the evolution of Dennis, complemented by a carefully curated selection of previously unpublished photographs, offering a unique glimpse into the company's rich heritage.
