Growing up in Hackney, Donny's life was plagued by poverty, crime, and casual violence, including grooming by a local gang. When his mother was imprisoned for drug offenses, Donny was fostered outside of London to the Hertfordshire countryside. Life in the rural Home Counties was like stepping onto another planet, but his work experience on the Hertford Union Canal gave him a sense of purpose. When Donny's posh new friend Zoe was offered a dubious modeling audition in London, the pair decided to borrow a canal barge and navigate the 29 locks down to Kings Cross. As they started their journey, the future looked as bleak as Zoe's fake audition. However, as they conquered each lock, their adventures took on a new dimension, and their lives would never be the same again.
