A Theology of Childhood

Three studies by Sister Benedicta (1933–2022) are brought together here to illuminate different aspects of Christian belief and devotion in the medieval world. Drawing on saints’ lives, miracle collections, monastic writings, hymns, and devotional texts, she explores medieval understandings of childhood, the symbolism of the wounds of Christ, and attitudes towards death, sanctity, and the hope of resurrection.
